Leigh and Team,

Congratulations - What a fantastic event – you all deserve a big pat on the back for pulling off such a great event. Whitianga can only be grateful as FOS definitely has cemented our great town as a great place to live – hopefully this event resulted in some section sales for Whitianga Waterways.

We can now look forward to a great Easter as I’m sure many people who enjoyed FOS will return and get a good look at our town – hopefully resulting in some more sales! Now we need to work as a community to arrange the next bit of excitement for the town as I’m sure many people realized the stress those with “Official” on there shirts were under at times over the weekend. So well done team – for once I was pleased to be one of the crowd!

Leigh one can only be impressed by your skills in the Chopper, well done for beating Stace in round two he must have been doing well over 200k – very very impressive. That was my favourite event – or was it the motor bike Asphalt Assault or maybe the Red Checkers – buggar it the whole event was a blast.

Cheers and thank you for an enjoyable weekend.
Positively Mike

Hi the people at the Whitianga markets : did not do as well as expected – The Possibility of having a roped off area near to the Power Boats : to hold the markets so that spectators can possibly make a purchase (ie: mums). Just a thought!
Great work for all involved and a big thank you from the Whitianga i-SITE : great for the economy and a fun festival.

Congratulations on an awesome weekend. Fantastic profile for Whitianga and amazing positive feedback from everyone.

I truly feel that finally the town as a whole appreciated the effort put into this – and that this is the beginning of something huge.

A big thanks from us –we know how much went into this and we certainly benefited and will continue to do so!!

If there is anything you would like us to link into from our Real Estate site, give me a bell.

Hi Paul,

Congratulations for your fantastic first event, I was amazed at the attendance on Saturday and my family and I had a really great time after I ‘knocked off’ from organising the celebrity race.

Alison
THANKYOU to all involved in your weekend “Festival Of Speed”

It was a fabulous event and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute that we were at some of the events…….so much going on we did not know where to look first, waterways sea sky or road!!!???

We wish you all the best for next year and we will look forward to the next one.

We had hoped to see it reported on the news, but guess it will be on a sports channel at some stage.

Well done

Thanks again

Hi Paul

Big thanks on an awesome weekend. It was a real I opener to see the water ways and the amount of big boats there. Tell Lee I thought his helicopter race with the off shore power boat was the highlight for me. We all had a great time and were well entertained. The 20 snapper on the way home was an unexpected bonus too. Sorry we didn’t hang for the prize giving but we had our clients with us so opted to get dinner instead.Well done again we will be back with a faster boat for your next event.

Regards Dean

Hi Paul

Congratulations on a fantastic weekend and an amazing event. I'm sure it's just the start of something sure to become annual and internationally recognised, well done.
We got some great aerial shots of the fishing boat challenge, as well as Lee having some fun against the race boat and rally car, so hopefully there's some good material to use for upcoming promotions. Which address can I send an invoice to for the aircraft time Paul?
Thanks again for the opportunity to play a small part, and we'll certainly look forward to the next one. Enjoy that well earned beer.

Kind regards, Blair Quickfall

Hi Paul,

Just emailing to thank you for including us in the Festival.
We were busy with rides on the Sunday including an international mix of clients from Ireland, England, and San Francisco.

We thought you'd be interested to know that the San Franciso client knew nothing about the Festival until she was having breakfast at a cafe in Auckland. She saw some of the powerboats going past with the Festival of Speed banners on them. She noted it was free, looked up the website on her cellphone, and headed straight down here with her new boyfriend!
It was a very successful weekend for which you and your team are to be congratulated.

We are still waiting to hear from our prizewinner in the ping poing drop. We've rung the local office, and Tracey is going to ring us back when she finds out who it was, so we will be ready when they ring in.

All the best,
Geith & Shirley

Hi Tracey

We came up to Whitianga for this festival in the weekend and I would have to say it was amazing!!!! It was unreal that in these economic times a family of 5 can enjoy such a spectacle for free. I can not talk highly enough of this outstanding event. Our young family didn’t know where to look there was so much stuff to see. Please can you pass on our immense thanks to all the people who contributed their time and money to put on this event. It was a slickly run operation and has certainly made Whitianga a place we will holiday in the future .

We can’t wait to bring all our friends up for next years event!!!! I do hope it continues!!!

We will be back

Hi Tracey,

First of all well done to you and Paul for your fantastic organisation of this event that can only but grow.
Just following up on a couple of things that I now need.
Warren tells me that a dvd is available to the public, is it possible to
a) call in and pick up a copy for review, so I can give it a bit of a push on the wireless. (promise I will return it)
b) Paul suggested that some more t shirts maybe available, can you confirm that this is happening as well.

Cheers
Mike

Hi Tracey -

A message for all the organisers and event managers .

Serious congratulations for a really fantastic event at Whitianga last weekend!

We're Aucklanders with a place at Cooks and had visitors up from Napier for the weekend. They were absolutely glowing in their praise - as we were. And we didn't even get to the airfield. Other friends did and were also raving about everything they saw and did.

We reckon you did a tremendous job with the organisation and the publicity and the quality of the "speed merchants". The aerobatics were stunning. The town decoration was great. We thoroughly enjoyed all the atmosphere and wandering around enjoying it all, looking at the machinery. Just to have enthusiasts come into town and park their cars/bikes/boats to look at is great. Having the Navy there for example, is a great move and they should be encouraged again next time to be there and fly the flag. Next time our Napier visitors will buy clothes/home decoration etc. They just weren't prepared for the quality available in the shops this time and weren't expecting the range of shops now available.

Not to be taken as a criticism - purely a suggestion for next time..... for the crowds along the waterfront watching the off shore boats and that magnificent big launch race, we needed coffee/drinks/food stalls on the grass verges. We were up towards the wharf end under the palm trees. Mobile sellers there would have done very well. We had to send the girls off on a long walk to find a coffee while we watched the races and they couldn't find anything except at the other end of town and it was all cold by the time they got back.

Our visitors and heaps of others all want to book our beachhouse for next year's event!!
I'm usually pretty critical of these types of events - on a cost-benefit basis. I expect you have invested heavily this time but I reckon you did a top job and should be congratulated. I heard also that Hoppers had spent a lot of money backing this event. Thanks to them also and please pass on how much we appreciated it.

Hello Paul,

Once again thank you for a great event at Whitianga last weekend.
I know our guys enjoyed themselves and we have had positive comment back from spectators from the Big Boat race. The race was a lot of fun and we would definitely be up for a similar event next year, or even at Marsden Cove this November. It would be great to see the Festival continue and expand to include more of a show for boats like ours, possibly add a parade out past the marina to the race start on the Saturday. Spectators could get a great view from the marina wall or similar.

From our point of view it would be great to expand the event to start on the Friday afternoon and carry on a bit later on Sunday – especially if there is a boat show event on as well. Possibly have us do an activity on both the Saturday and Sunday – maybe a race one day, and a manoeuvring docking display / contest on the second day.

Any photo’s or video coverage of us during the weekend which you can give us would be greatly appreciated.

I look forward to keeping in touch and getting involved with your next event. Please pass on our appreciation to Leigh and Gray.

cheers

Hi Paul

How did the festival go? I really wanted to be part of it. Bugger!
For next year, I want to be in as I have already suggested. I would run an Enduro Cross (short duration races over obstacles such as logs, tyres, pipes, jumps, dirt, etc, etc)
This type of event would provide better spectator appeal, a wider variety of riders willing to have a go, coverage in Motorcycle magazines pre and post the festival plus it won’t take up too much space. I don’t thing a Moto X or Super X event is the go as it is really a fun weekend for all concerned.
We would run this in two levels – Pro and upport.. This will attract more entries, give longer durations of racing and show the spectators just how tough it is. No point in having it so everyone rides easily. We need to lesser skilled to show how to stuff it up and give the big boys more prestige.
I am currently setting my 2009 calendar of dates and have tentatively booked in the first weekend in April. I note that this date is Easter next year????????????
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Greg
